Fantastic New Service for Waterford 19/07/2012 Care & Repair maintenance service for Older People comes to Waterford City. Waterford Area Partnership and Age Action Ireland have come together to deliver the service in Waterford.

 

“Care & Repair” a fantastic new FREE service targeted at older people was officially launched by the Mayor of Waterford on Wednesday 18th July in the Tower Hotel, Waterford.

Hosted by Waterford Area Partnership the new service is based on the very successful Age Action Ireland “Care & Repair Programme” and it will operate from Unit 14, Cheshire Homes, Johns Hill, Waterford.

In his speech, the Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Jim Darcy,  said “The Care & Repair Programme is a great initiative for the City and staff will do the little maintenance jobs around the house that the elderly may not be able to do themselves”.

Speaking at the launch John O’Mahony, Development Officer, Age-Action Ireland Ltd said “We are delighted that The Care & Repair Programme is being launched in Waterford City in conjunction with Waterford Area Partnership.  I want to confirm that all Care & Repair  staff are Garda vetted and carry official Age Action identification cards”.

Joe Stokes, CEO,  Waterford Area Partnership said that he is thrilled to be involved in delivering such an important initiative for the elderly people of Waterford City.  “I want to re-iterate that the service is FREE of charge and the only cost to our senior citizens will be for the materials used” Joe stated. He then thanked The Care & Repair Steering Committee, John O’Mahony, Age Action Ireland and Waterford Area Partnership staff Suzanne Connolly and Ian Lennon for the hard work they put into getting the project up and running so quickly".

Examples of the type of jobs that are covered by the programme include minor carpentry, small gardening jobs, minor painting & decorating jobs, installing smoke alarms, security locks & chains etc. – i.e. the type of small  maintenance  jobs that older people are no longer able to do for themselves.
