"Moving On" Ferrybank Graduations 26/05/2010 FETAC certificates awarded in Ferrybank

The Ferrybank “Moving On” Local Training Initiative celebrated its 6th Year on Friday 21st May with the presentation of FETAC certificates to 12 graduates in the Athenaum House Hotel.

“The project has proven to be of great benefit to the Ferrybank Community  according to Cllr. Mary Roche, Chairperson of Waterford Area Partnership, “It has enabled people to re-enter the workforce or to progress to further education or training”.

FETAC Level 5 Awards

Stephen Burke, FÁS Community Development Officer, said he was delighted with the continued success of the Local Training Initiative. “This is due to the commitment of the participants and the dedication of Denise Wall, the initiative Coordinator, and her team of Tutors” Stephen stated.

Annie Byrne who received her award at the ceremony said she was really thrilled with her new qualification. “The course was very enjoyable and was a great experience. It has given me a FETAC qualification, boosted my confidence and will help me to return to work” Annie said.

With over 85% of participants progressing to work or further education or training Mr. Joe Stokes, C.E.O. of Waterford Area Partnership commented on the way the Initiative has developed over the years. “The fact that seven participants will receive awards at FETAC Level 5 this year is an indication of the way the Initiative is growing in terms of meeting the potential of the community in Ferrybank”. Joe Stokes said.

Denise Wall, “Moving On” Coordinator , said the feedback from participants indicates that the Initiative is meeting the objectives of Waterford Area Partnership and FÁS. The financial support of the Department of Social Protection and County Kilkenny VEC contributes to the success of the course.

Getting FETAC awards means that participants have a recognised qualification that they can use to access recognised education and training courses. Taking part in the “Moving On” Initiative helps people to identify their skills and builds their confidence.
